A Message from the Black Hills Rapids Board of Directors

BH Rapids Families –

Recently, we as an organization lost two key members of our Black Hills Rapids soccer family. As most of you know, longtime Director of Coaching Luis Usera, resigned his position earlier this month. Unfortunately, we have also recently accepted the resignation of President of the Board of Directors, Charles Culbertson. While each has his own reasons for moving on, the remaining Rapids board and staff acknowledge that both Luis and Charles have been incredible leaders in our organization and will be greatly missed.

Although we’ve lost some important faces, we want to assure our members that many of our great leaders remain committed to the program, including Executive Director Doug Noyes, Recreational DOC Josh Valder and most of our competitive coaching staff. These individuals have our full support and we appreciate their vision as we move forward.

Obviously, these departures have left important questions to answer and holes to fill. It’s been a challenge to say the least. But in the last week, we as a Board, have been working closely with the organization’s leadership to keep this club moving in a positive direction. As parents and coaches ourselves, it’s what we know our families deserve. Below are a few things we’ve been working on:

  • Our top priority has been to continue creating teams for the fall season. The driving force behind any final decisions is determined by the tryout numbers for each age group. The reality is that we have lower numbers in some our older age groups, so we will be combining certain ages to form sufficient team rosters, give all players the chance to play and remain competitive. The process will not be perfect, but our goal is to do what is fair, while getting players on the field.
    • Over the next few days, we will be asking the registrar to send out player acceptance notifications so we can begin the process of forming the overall team rosters.
    • Once final member commitments are in, we can continue down the path of getting teams practices, games and tournament information to each member.
  • Another area of focus is obviously determining our competitive coaching and operations needs as a club. We are working hard to put people in place who will help players develop, our program succeed and our members feel valued.
  • Finally, it has been brought to our attention recently that communication to our families has not always been what it should. We sincerely apologize that the important information you and your players need has not been forthcoming. We are working to develop processes and tools to fix this issue.

We ask you to understand that running a complex of this size and a program with 2,000 members is no easy task. But your elected Board of Directors and BHR staff are dedicated to this organization and you as members. We will continue to make the best decisions we can with the information at hand and look forward to a great year of soccer…together.

Thank you,
