The Black Hills Rapids Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this scholarship is to recruit and retain dedicated athletes who have significant financial barriers to participate on a Black Hills Rapids competitive soccer team. The scholarship recognizes that the benefits of participating in soccer extend off the field by promoting life skills such as persistence, patience and practice. Students who are committed to soccer are more likely to attend class regularly and less likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors. Researchers have shown that participation in sports is one of the few interventions that benefit disadvantaged students as much or more than their more advantaged peers.
This scholarship will cover the annual registration fee, the uniform kit (if needed) and a tournament allowance to cover a portion of tournament registration fees throughout the year for two Academy-aged athletes and two Select-aged athletes. Recipients will be selected and notified by BHRSC staff and will be given a certificate in recognition of the award as well as instructions on how to utilize the award.
Players must demonstrate the values of BHRSC: time management, teamwork, responsibility, resilience, sportsmanship, and work ethic. These, in addition to the aforementioned, will be the criteria by which this scholarship will be awarded.
This scholarship fund was made possible by the generosity of Dr. Steven and Mrs. Danielle Giuseffi.
